Solar for schools, hospitals and religious centres in Nigeria
How institutions with critical loads — classrooms, wards, cold chain, halls — should approach solar and storage, and what must never stop.

Institutions differ from businesses in one important way: the cost of an outage is measured in teaching hours, patient safety or a congregation left in the dark, not only in Naira. That changes how a system should be designed.
Hospitals and clinics
Theatres, wards, laboratories and vaccine or blood cold chain are critical loads. The design question is not 'how many panels' but 'which circuits must stay live, for how long, with what changeover time'. Storage and changeover design matter more here than array size.
Schools
Classrooms, laboratories, hostels and administration have very different daily profiles; boarding schools add night loads. Government schools are procured as outright capital projects with multi-year operations and maintenance, not as long-term energy receivables.
Mosques, churches and community centres
Religious centres often have short, heavy peaks — sound systems, lighting and cooling during services — and light loads in between. Sizing storage to the peak window, not to a 24-hour average, avoids an oversized system.
Start with what must never stop
Whatever the institution, the assessment starts by listing the loads that must never stop and measuring the rest. Named institutions appear on this site only with written consent.
