Choosing a home inverter in Nigeria (2026): what actually matters
Hybrid vs off-grid, sizing, phase, battery voltage and local support — how to choose a solar inverter for a Nigerian home without buying on brand alone.

There is no single 'best' inverter — there is the right inverter for your loads, your supply and your budget. MGM's homes packages use two brands, AlphaESS Halo and Deye, because both offer hybrid designs with local stock and support. Whatever brand you consider, check these points.
What to check
- Hybrid design — works with grid, generator, solar and battery together, rather than solar-only.
- Continuous rating in kW — sized to your real simultaneous load, with headroom for motor starts (pumps, ACs, fridges).
- Phase — single-phase for most homes; three-phase where the supply and loads require it.
- Battery compatibility — lithium (LiFePO4) communication with the battery's management system.
- Changeover — how fast the inverter takes over when supply fails, and whether it can manage a generator.
- Local support — who repairs or replaces it in Nigeria, and how quickly.
Common mistakes
Buying an inverter far larger than the battery can supply, or a battery too small for the inverter, gives disappointing backup either way. The inverter, battery and array should be sized as one system around your night-time loads.
